Church Church History
On
May 27, 2007, Rev. Quentin La Mar Respress called an impromptu
meeting of volunteers. By word of mouth, this meeting was held at
3:00pm at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. We who were
present (40+) chose to follow our leader. Pastor Marcus Martin
and Pastor Donald J. Washington were present. We needed a place
to worship quickly. The first place chosen was the Marcus
Theater in Pickerington, Ohio. The available time to worship was
7:30-11:30 A.M.
Our first meeting was June 3, 2007 (Sunday). We had no pulpit,
no piano, no song books or Bibles save our own, or a bank to
deposit our offerings.
Sis. Yvonne Smith brought in her piano keyboard and she became
our first pianist. When offering was taken, we had nowhere to
make checks payable to. A member volunteered to allow this to be
done through them.
Order of service was as follows: Sunday School 8:15-9:10 AM,
Breakfast 9:10-9:30 AM, Morning Worship 9:30-11:30 AM. Choir
rehearsal, Bible study and prayer meetings were held at Galilee
Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday nights at 6:00.
On our 2nd meeting at the theater (Sunday, June 10, 2007),
Pastor Respress hewed out an old rugged cross and draped it with
royal purple. Sis. Beulah Granger placed flowers at the foot of
the cross. We now had a cross but no crown. Pastor Respress then
greeted us with a new name he said that the Lord had given him
for our church: Kingdom Power Baptist Church! We now had our
first pulpit and our new church. God our King with all power.
Our first church business meeting was June 26, 2007 outside at
Shepherd Library Park at 6:00 PM. During this time, Pastor
Respress’ wife, Sis. India Respress who is the choir director,
wrote and introduced a welcome song – “We want to welcome you to
the Kingdom Power Baptist Church”.
Vacation Bible School was taught August 7, 8, & 9, 2007 from 6-8
PM in Blacklick Woods State Park in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
Kingdom Power and Pastor Respress continued to pray and search
for a better service center. After looking at several locations,
Sis. Virginia Hike spotted a small church building at 196 South
Highland Avenue that was empty. Pastor and a committee viewed it
and immediately we went into prayer and fasting. Later on we
were able to receive what God had placed in our pathway, thus
ending our tenure at the Marcus Theater August 26, 2007. We were
there three months.
On the first Sunday in September (Sept. 2), Kingdom Power
fellowshipped with the Inspirational Baptist Church in
Cincinnati, Ohio in the morning. When we returned to Columbus,
we had our first Communion service at 5:00 PM in our new home.
Twenty-five saints were present, and four were baptized.
On September 9, 2007, Pastor Respress preached his first sermon
in our new home titled “Rebuilding the Wall”.
Through God’s grace and mighty power, we the members of the
Kingdom Power Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev.
Quentin La Mar Respress celebrate
its
birth of three years on June 1, 2010….
Our Core Values
The Kingdom Power Baptist Church is a Bible believing, Bible
teaching and preaching, Christ-centered ministry. We seek to
draw humanity to a closer knowledge of Jesus Christ! To that
end, here are the four Core Values of our Church.
Evangelism (Power of 1)- We believe according to the Word of
God, we must tell it. Until somebody hears it. That which we
seek to share is Christ born of a virgin, died on a cross at
Calvary, raised the third day morning, and ascended back to
glory. Now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. We
base our practice of evangelism from the model found in Acts 1.

Jerusalem
Samaria
Uttermost Part of the earth
Education-This Core Value will teach our members spiritual
truths that can be applied for a deeper walk with the Lord
Jesus. This is achieved through Church School, Tuesday Night
Teaching, Children’s Bible Stories, Quarterly Seminars, and
Vacation Bible School.

b. Ohio Baptist General Convention
c. Inter-domination Church Ushers Association
d. National Baptist Convention of America, Inc.
e. Metro Columbus Baptist Association
f. Southern Baptist Convention
Exhortation-The component of our ministry deal with worship and
the various forms of the worship offered. We are not a
traditional ministry in that we have a ‘cookie cutter’
ministry-we don’t! We believe in individual expression (that
aligns itself with God’s Word-for the Spirit does not behave
itself unseemingly). Corporate expression-as a body of baptized
believers we intentionally worship God as a responsibility and
as a right. The Bible exhorts us, that we should do all things
as rendering service unto God.
a. Choral expression
b. Dance expression
c. Drama expression
d. Instrumental expression
e. Offertory expression
f. Ushering, Nursing, Greeting, Gate keeping
g. Teaching, Preaching
Edification-This Core Value is to purposefully designed to build
up, rather than to tear down. This is offered to each member in
various creative ways. The intent again, is to value the worth
of each individual, and to build self esteem and self
confidence.
